The name Elephant and Castle may derive from a connection to Catherine of Aragon, whose title of 'Infanta de Castille y Aragon' could have been anglicised. Alternatively, it may be linked to the Cutlers' company of the City of London whose emblem is a war elephant with a howdah on its back.
