Gin Festival at Nicholson's

The Shakespeare Inn’S GIN FESTIVAL 2019 — THE FINEST GINS IN ONE PLACE

This summer, we had a great time celebrating our 4th annual Gin Festival with more than 40 gins to sample at each of our outlets.

Many of you enjoyed our show-stopping gins from a range of breweries as well as sampling some delicious summer serves.

From sweet and fruity sloe gins to summer cups and Old Tom styles, all the way through to the juniper-heavy and robust, navy strength gins.

We’ve been perfecting pubs since 1873 and we’re proud to have over 140 years of botanical heritage. So it was only right that throughout our Gin Festival, we took our guests on a taste expedition serving the finest gins of all kinds.

OUR SUMMER GIN

For this year’s Gin Festival, we partnered with a range of famous breweries like Adnams and BrewDog, who have created their very own selection of gins. Each gin was a hit with our guests, and they were certainly enjoyed by those who gave them a try!

BREWERIES MAKING GIN

Brewdog Lone Wolf Gin
Brewdog Lone Wolf – Scotland, 40%

A zest-filled start gives way to delicate spice notes from the coriander, pink peppercorns and mace: a perfect complement to the citrus fruits. Lavender provides a delicate floral sweetness and Scots pine needles help to embed the juniper. We’ve paired this with Fever-Tree Premium Indian Tonic.

  • Gin style: Juniper-heavy and robust
  • Taste: Lavender and citrus notes run alongside a forage of pine needles and fierce juniper backbone.
  • Garnish: Pink grapefruit

  • Garnish: Strawberries
Tarquin’s Hopster
Tarquin’s Hopster – Cornwall, England, 42% vol

Crafted with their Cornish neighbours, Sharp's Brewery. The award-winning Tarquin's Cornish Dry Gin recipe is the base, then on top of this, they add three of Sharp’s aromatic brewing hops: pilot, cascade and crystal. Best paired with Fever-Tree Ginger Ale.

  • Gin style: Modern and distinctive
  • Taste: Dry spiced juniper, zesty hops, savoury herbs

The gin library

The popularity of Gin in recent years has seen a rise in non-traditional places, such as breweries, wanting to try their hand at making their own version.

This year, it's all about the quality of gin - there’s been a huge rise in premium gins as well as new desire to try different mixers, like ginger ale.
