174 Queen Victoria Street, London, Greater London, EC4V 4EG 020 7236 5474
The Blackfriar is located on Queen Victoria Street in Blackfriars London, just a short stroll from Blackfriars Bridge, Upper Thames Street, The Bridewell Theatre, St Bride’s Church and Fleet Street.
You’ll find a host of London’s most iconic attractions, including St Paul’s Cathedral, the Tate Modern, and The Globe near you.
Nicholson’s Pubs are known for their individual style, exciting stories, and charming personalities — and The Blackfriar is certainly no exception.
Set in a historic, Art Nouveau Grade II masterpiece of a building, The Blackfriar was built in 1875 on the site of a Dominican friary. The building was designed by architect H. Fuller-Clark and artist Henry Poole, who were both committed to the free-thinking arts and crafts movement.
Today, you’ll still find Poole’s original jolly friars around the pub, in the form of sculptures, mosaics, and reliefs. You might say we’re lucky to still be here after being saved from demolition by a campaign led by Sir John Betjeman!
Our breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus offer everything you’d expect to find on any respectable, British pub menu, and so much more besides. Boasting an array of delicious sharers, through to classic main dishes, and succulent burgers, there’s a selection to suit every appetite.
Alongside our classic menus, we’re also a speciality sausage and chop house. Choose from a seasonal menu of speciality sausages, all served up with a generous dollop of delicious mash and lashings of flavoursome red onion gravy, and speciality chops with all the classic trimmings.
The Blackfriar is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of iconic and great British pubs — held in the highest of regards for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.
