With the UK committed to hitting the target of net zero carbon emissions by 2050, it makes sense that those of us here at The Walrus and The Carpenter are following suit. We’ve gone over our carbon footprint and have a clear strategy in mind about what we can do to hit that magic number.
We’ve done a lot so far, but there’s still plenty to do. So far, we’re making plenty of small changes every day which hopefully have a long-lasting impact on our environment – after all, what’s an Ale & Gin Trail without a gorgeous planet to walk on?
Not only are we making better, more sustainable choices and improvements, but we’re also keeping a close watch on the following:
o Hitting net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2040 (Scopes 1, 2 and 3)
o Zero waste to landfill by 2030
o Reducing food waste by 50% as 2030 rolls around
o Working with FareShare to redistribute surplus food to communities in need
o Pub classics and flowing drinks, all served in 100% renewable electricity
o A massive 96% of our operational waste is diverted from landfill, keeping the planet cleaner for longer
o We’re one of the founding members of the Zero Carbon Forum, dedicated to reducing emissions and developing a Roadmap to Net Zero
